Resources for Kansas Clients

Below you will find resources for directing your own care, as well as links to external websites that provide information for individuals with disabilities.

Self-Direction Toolkit

The toolkit is a comprehensive guide to assist individuals in directing their own care. Developed in 2006 by The University of Kansas, with input from numerous agencies across the state that support individuals with disabilities. This manual is dated, and doesn't address changes brought about by the State's transition to Financial Management Service (FMS) providers. However, the toolkit still provides relevant information about directing your own care.

Kansas Self-Direct Website

Kansas developed a self-direct website as a resource for individuals who direct their own care. The website contains self-directing resources, such as the self-direction toolkit, and information on Agency With Choice (AWC) Financial Management Service (FMS). The site hasn't been updated in a few years, but the information is relevant to the current FMS model used in Kansas.

Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS)

Kansas department that administers the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver programs in Kansas. The website contains information on services as well as selected news/updates on programs.

Families Together

A parent training and information center, serving families of children with disabilities and/or special health needs from birth through 21 years of age.

Disability.gov

Disability.gov is a federal website that provides information on disability programs across the country. The website is organized in a way that will help guide you to the information you are looking for. Start by selecting an audience (e.g. caregiver, person with disability), then a topic, location, and finally the summary of resources and information.

Healthcare.gov

A federal website that provides information on accessing affordable health care coverage provided through the Affordable Care Act.
